Gauri and Prakash are in love and get intimate. Their ways are separate, and Prakash must marry Renuka, as she meets his family's approval. Gauri gets pregnant as a result of this intimacy, gets ill, and is hospitalized. It is here that the truth surfaces about Gauri and Prakash, as details are revealed of their past birth, in which they were lovers - Gangadhar Upadhyay, and Gauri, and Kalavati (presently Renuka). During this previous birth too, Gauri gets pregnant, gets ill, and passes away, because of Kalavati's interference. The child in her womb does not survive, and as a result Gangadhar also gets killed. In this birth, the only way Prakash can survive is after someone who loves him sacrifices their life for him.

Sudha Verma wants to be the ideal daughter for her dad, and mom. Unfortunately, her mom passes away, and her dad re-marries, this time to Kamla, who is self-serving and not at all interested to see Sudha marry and settle down. Sudha meets with Dr. Rajesh Anand, and both fall in love. All approve of the marriage, until Rajesh sees the invitation card for Sudha's marriage, and realizes that his marriage has been arranged with Sharda, and that Sudha is to marry Rakesh. Gangaram Verma has worked for the local municipality for several years, and is known in the community for being honest. Contractors' many attempts to bribe him have all been in vain. One of the contractor's, Prem Kumar, decides to teach Gangaram a lesson. He hires Gangaram's only son, Vijay, in his office, and subsequently gets him married to his only daughter, Sapna. The three then scheme to get Gangaram to trust them, and upon doing so, they get him to sign his property to them, leaving Gangaram and his wife, Laxmi, homeless.
